Scientific River Journey (day visit) Year 11-12

While canoeing or hiking down your local river/creek system your students will be engaged in a journey based investigation of catchments and aquatic ecosystems.

Watch as they develop a deep understanding and sense of stewardship through an enjoyment of the natural environment and explore the value of scientific data whilst undertaking environmental advocacy.

Students will use cutting edge technologies to collect the information for their investigation. Physiochemical data collected on iPad via Bluetooth sensors, along with the identification of aquatic macro invertebrates and riparian edge surveys from the birds eye view of our drone will all contribute to a single site assessment.

Your Stanley River Environmental Education Centre Teacher will guide your students through these investigations across multiple sites as they share and collaboratively analyse the data to make assessments of catchment and ecosystem health and consider the impact of human activities.

Back in the classroom students will then have access to all of the data they have collected as well as a bank of historical data from our local sites which can inform authentic real world assessment items.
